On a six hour flight from Manchester to Cape Verde inside a tiny cigar case with wings, it’s the ‘little things’ that get on your tits:
Spontaneous scouse cackling, (nothing against Wirral folk, but they do have volume control issues) Unexpected outbursts of ‘self expression’ from other people’s offspring, one of whom is allowed to play a Peppa Pig iPad game with the volume cranked up to the max, [looped Beep-Beep! I’m Peppa Pig! + chirpy musical refrain] One of the little darlings just exclaimed ‘F*#k Yooo!’ Oh, and did I mention the unremitting bonking, nudging and knee-ing of my seat? That’s thanks to two ‘hilarious’ old ladies behind me.
We’ve all been there. Thankfully there are ‘little things’ you can do to avoid causing actual bodily harm to fellow passengers:
I have successfully achieved a whole ten minutes of blissful sleep! This was done by firmly ramming in earbuds (XTC ‘Fossil Fuel’, and Maggie Rogers ‘Now That The Light Is Fading’, if you’re interested.) Also, the application of a super-fluffy new eye mask from TKMAXX, (which coordinates, quite by chance, with my top, how stylish) combined with my son’s borrowed red ‘Hugli’ to prevent uncontrolled ‘sleepy nodding’, has afforded me an invaluable escape from my immediate surroundings. Thus for ten minutes any thoughts of the aforementioned bodily harm were subdued.
Every annoyance becomes that little bit more bearable after a nap.
Now all I have to do is spritz my famsque with Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber & Green Tea (indulgent holiday treat from Beauty Bay online) and I’m ready to emerge from this sweaty cocoon like an exotic butterfly ready to seek out a swimming pool and fling myself in.
How do YOU get through it…?
